NP ALSA unveils its enhanced bus transportation program for the Asturias metropolitan area in Avilés.
The event was attended by Fernando Lastra, Minister of Infrastructure, Territorial Planning and the Environment, and Jacobo Cosmen, President of ALSA Asturias.
The plan includes the incorporation of 23 new state-of-the-art buses by mid-July 2019, of which the first nine units are presented today, which will operate in the central triangle:
• 2 units, Scania Interlink, hybrids, with diesel/electric engine; which are the first intercity hybrids to circulate in the Principality.
• 7 Setra S419 UL units, with Euro VI category
The remaining fourteen units, which will be incorporated in the months of June and July, will be:
• 4 Mercedes Benz SC5 Sunsundegui units, with Euro VI category, for services with the airport; the fleet of said concession being completely renovated.
• 10 Mercedes Benz SC5 Sunsundegui units, for the rest of the Asturias concessions.
With these 23 new buses - which are added to the two presented last autumn - the renovation of 25 units planned for the Asturias contract is completed, for the period 2018 and 2019.
For a company of Asturian origin such as ALSA, which generates more than 1,000 jobs in Asturias, the incorporation of these new vehicles represents a further step in its commitment to sustainable and safe mobility, allowing it to operate its services generating minimal emissions, and continue offering its customers in the Principality transport services with high quality standards.
The CENTROBÚS service, a complete door-to-door design
On the other hand, ALSA - as a regional mobility operator in passenger transport by road - has reinforced the Centrobús service that quickly, easily and economically connects Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés, through a hundred stops in different areas of the indicated cities.
The Centrobús service, launched by ALSA, is the intelligent way to travel between Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés, by offering the user more stops near their home to transfer them to their place of work or study, as comfortably as possible.
The Centrobús service is the evolution of the transport system that, years ago, facilitated the travel of officials and students from Gijón and Avilés, with Oviedo. In the current Centrobús, any user can enjoy this door-to-door service, which offers connections near the home to travel to places of work, training (university centers of Oviedo and Gijón), and health centers.
To the comfort of the ALSA's Centrobús service is added the advantage that it avoids the problems and costs of parking, which would involve making these trips in a private vehicle through the center of Asturias.
The Centrobús services are added to the usual 450 daily high-frequency services that operate starting from the respective stations between Oviedo-Gijón, Oviedo-Avilés and Gijón-Avilés.
The Centrobús service can be used with the CTA payment card or purchase the ticket directly on the buses themselves. All information on schedules and stops on the new website: http://www.paradascentrobus.es
A modern, safe and environmentally sustainable fleet
The progressive incorporation of Euro VI units implies significant environmental improvements, in terms of emission reduction, generating:
• A 28% saving in CO emissions compared to Euro III.
• An 88% saving in NOx emissions compared to Euro III.
• An 80% saving in hydrocarbon emissions compared to Euro III.
• A 90% saving in PM particle emissions compared to Euro III.
These data deepen the comparison between bus and private vehicle, in which the bus emits between three and nine times less than a private vehicle per traveler, so it is confirmed as successful to continue addressing public and private strategies aimed at reducing emissions.
ALSA's new vehicles in Asturias incorporate numerous innovations in the field of safety, comfort and accessibility for People with Reduced Mobility ((PMR).
Thus, the new units have improvements in safety, such as:
• Alcolock device, which prevents the vehicle from starting in the event of detecting the presence of alcohol in the driver.
• Anti-slip traction system (ASR).
• Electronic stability system (ESP).
• Fire alarm system for controlling the engine compartment.
Improvements in comfort and travel experience, such as:
• Ergonomic design of seats generating greater amplitude and improvement in the general accessibility of the bus, as it has been used in other Consortiums such as those of Madrid or Barcelona.
• USB chargers for all types of devices in all seats of the vehicle.
• Latest generation Wi-fi for internet access without any cost to the client through the latest generation connection with ample bandwidth and availability guarantees.
• OndRoad on-board entertainment system for viewing multimedia content on the mobile device with a wide range of film and television content.
Latest technology for the accessibility of people with reduced mobility (PMR), such as:
• Optical acoustic guidance system: positioning with optical-acoustic elements, to guide people with reduced visibility both from the position of the entrance door, on the outside, and from the location of the ticket validators and the seats reserved for them, inside.
• Location of seats reserved for PMR, by means of a guidance system, with bushings, in longitudinal upper bars. These seats have pushbuttons in seats, with braille writing.
• Fully automated wheelchair ramps: located in the central door of the vehicle for access with wheelchairs and baby carriages, with the support of the driver with remote control.
