The heritage railway line between Venta de Baños and Aguilar de Campóo will boost visits to the Las Edades del Hombre exhibition.

Palencia, July 25th. The Deputy for Culture, Carmen Fernández, together with the representative of the Venteña Association of Friends of the Railway, José Luis Renedo, and Antonio Ginés, managing director of ALSA Rail, presented this morning the launch of the historical train service between the towns of Venta de Baños, Palencia, and Aguilar de Campoo, on the occasion of the celebration of the 23rd edition of "Las Edades del Hombre", Mons Dei.

This initiative, promoted by the Palencia Provincial Council, the Venteña Association of Friends of the Railway and the transport company Alsa, also has the collaboration of the Aguilar de Campoo City Council, the Las Edades del Hombre Foundation and the Spanish Railway Foundation; with the aim of publicizing, through this innovative initiative for the province; the richest area in Romanesque monuments in Europe, the Palentina Mountain; all this aboard a vintage train from the forties. In addition, this heritage and cultural offer can be culminated by the rich Palencia gastronomy, as well as with a visit to the Las Edades del Hombre Exhibition.

This historic train, which in one day configured the Train of the Camino de Santiago, returns again to the rails of the province of Palencia. The locomotive "La Verraco" in this case is replaced by an American diesel from the 60s and will be formed by department cars from the forties; that will move directly from Madrid, where it usually makes the journey of Felipe II that connects the capital and El Escorial, for the enjoyment of palentinos and visitors, on the occasion of the aforementioned exhibition.

The price of tickets will be 22 euros (round trip) for adults and 15 for children and includes transportation from Camesa station to the center of Aguilar de Campoo. It should be noted that the price does not include admission to the Las Edades del Hombre exhibition, although it can be purchased during the purchase process of tickets for the Tren de las Edades on the specific website of ALSA Rail (https://www.alsa.es/es/tren-historico-edades-del-hombre-palencia-aguilar-de-campoo) or at 91 020 07 82 or at ALSA ticket offices; for 4 euros guide included.

This new tourist offer will take place on the 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th of August and will have certain travel times. The outward journey, departing from Venta de Baños at 10; 18, will arrive in Palencia at 10.45 am and is scheduled to arrive in Aguilar at 12.15 pm. In the opposite direction, it will leave Aguilar at 6.50 pm to arrive in Palencia at 8.09 pm and Venta de Baños at 8.25 pm.

The effort of ALSA, together with the Venteña Association of Friends of the Railway to keep alive the history of the railway is evident in this activity that, without a doubt, will be a claim during the days of circulation in the month of August.

The Palencia Provincial Council once again shows with this initiative its commitment to the heritage of the province and for the promotion of tourism in this area.

The Provincial Institution is clear about the need to take advantage of the important events of this year; such as Las Edades del Hombre in Aguilar de Campoo or the 50th anniversary of the discovery of La Olmeda, to turn our province into a tourist destination of reference.
