What to see in Donostia/San Sebastián

San Sebastián, known as Donostia in Basque, is a beautiful city on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea. Renowned for its stately air, San Sebastián was one of the first beach resorts in modern history, with members of the aristocracy flocking to holiday there at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century due to its mild climate and unparalleled natural landscapes.

San Sebastián is now an important tourist destination thanks to the combination of beaches and mountains, as well as a world-class culinary offering making it a unique spot in Eastern Cantabria.

San Sebastián also has a lot to offer in the way of culture. It is here that the prestigious International Film Festival and International Jazz Festival take place, in addition to other interesting cultural activities.

Wandering around and getting lost in the streets of the old quarter is an adventure in itself. It is full of shops and bars where you can taste the infinite variety of pintxos and menus to delight your palate while taking in views of the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and the Santa María del Coro Basilica. The famous Paseo de la Concha surrounds the beach of the same name, finishing up at Peine del Viento (the Wind Comb), one of the most famous works of Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida.
