ALSA to manage urban transportation in Casablanca

The new contract has an initial duration of 10 years. It will involve the incorporation of 700 new buses to serve 100 million passengers per year. Total revenue of 729 million euros is expected in the 10 years of the contract.
These figures represent almost doubling the current business and activity magnitudes of ALSA in Morocco, and moving to manage urban transport in five of the six most populated cities in the country: Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier.
In this way, after the successful start of operations in Rabat last August - where 300 new buses already operate - and with the upcoming incorporation of Casablanca, in 2020 the Spanish company will operate a fleet of 1,700 vehicles throughout the country, which will serve more than 350 million passengers per year and will have a turnover of 174 million euros per year, consolidating its leadership as the leading urban transport operator in Morocco.
700 NEW BUSES IN 2020
The implementation of the new contract - which is the largest operated by a Spanish transport company outside of our country - will be carried out in two phases. A first transition phase, until November 2020, in which 400 buses will be operated, while a fleet modernization and maintenance plan is undertaken, together with personnel training processes and construction of new facilities. The second phase, from November of next year, will involve the incorporation of 700 new buses, which will replace the previous ones, and the implementation of the new network, together with the new ticketing and Operation Support System (SAE
In Casablanca, ALSA will implement a technologically advanced transport system, with innovative solutions such as ticketing and a state-of-the-art Operations Planning System, WiFi and video surveillance cameras on board, which will be managed with the highest requirements in terms of security - through specific training for drivers and active and passive safety systems in vehicles - and respect for the environment, with buses with Euro V and Euro VI technology that guarantee minimal emissions.
Thanks to this award, the inhabitants of Casablanca will begin to enjoy urban transport with European quality standards in record time, which will facilitate intermodality with the city's tram network, leaving behind the deficient service they have suffered in recent years.
The award of this contract has been possible thanks to the experience accumulated by ALSA in these 20 years in Morocco, which has led it to gain the trust of the Administration and to be recognized by authorities and clients as a reliable operator with an excellent reputation, and is the result of its long-term commitment to the country and its ability to adapt to different local needs.
SUCCESS STORY
It also represents the culmination of a business success story, which began in 1999 with the award of urban transport in Marrakech, followed by those of Agadir (2010), Tangier (2013), Khouribga (2015) and Rabat, the country's political capital, in 2018.
The balance for ALSA of these 20 years in Morocco, in which it has accompanied the Moroccan authorities in the creation of modern transport systems and contributing to the economic development of the country with investments and the creation of stable employment, is very positive.
In this trajectory, ALSA has led the implementation of innovative and pioneering mobility solutions in the country, such as the introduction of the contactless card as a means of payment; the management of the first BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) high-capacity system implemented in Morocco in 2017; the introduction of tourist buses with 100% electric emission-free technology; or the installation of CCTV cameras on board buses to increase the safety of operations.
For ALSA, Morocco continues to be a country with enormous potential for development and growth and, thanks to the stability and legal certainty it offers, it is very attractive to continue investing in the short term in new segments, such as regular intercity transport.
