ALSA has conducted over 4,000 alcohol and drug tests on its staff.

Madrid, March 17th. - The passenger transport company ALSA has carried out more than 4,000 alcohol and drug tests on its driver staff since it implemented this preventative initiative in 2012 as part of its occupational Health and Safety policy.

ALSA thus became the first company in the sector in Spain to carry out drug detection tests, as a complement to alcohol tests, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of travelers as much as possible and in the absence of legal regulations in Spain that regulate this issue.

The performance of the tests is voluntary and is established by agreement between the company and the workers' representatives, and their acceptance is necessary. Once the agreement has been reached, the procedure that details and regulates the tests is established with the workers' representatives, respecting at all times the rights to honor and privacy of employees.

ALSA carries out 1,000 tests annually among the staff in 14 areas in which the company provides its services, with no positive results being recorded. The group of drivers who are tested amounts to 3,800.

THE TESTS

The controls are carried out randomly, without prior notice, in the facilities and workplaces before or during the working day, in a private environment. The employee must voluntarily accept its performance and the company guarantees the confidentiality of the results.

The test, carried out by qualified external health personnel, consists of a saliva detection test that measures and checks the presence of drugs in the body. For this, state-of-the-art DRUGTEST 5000 equipment is used, also used by the DGT. In the event that a positive result is obtained, a saliva sample would be sent in a capsule to an approved laboratory as a counter-analysis.

The company continues to work to extend the performance of tests to its entire workforce, as part of its commitment to safety and its customers.
