ALSA provides cardiac protection to 450,000 bus passengers

Madrid, September 15, 2016. - ALSA, Spain's leading passenger road transport operator, has developed an initiative to offer cardioprotection to passengers on its transport services, bus station users, and company employees.

To implement this initiative, it has placed its trust in B+Safe, which has installed to date 35 DOC® defibrillators (Connected Operational Defibrillator), on ALSA buses, stations and facilities, including offices and workshops, a number that will mainly increase at the fleet level.

In this first phase, defibrillators have been installed on board the buses that operate nine of the main routes operated by the company, including all Premium Services, and on which more than 450,000 passengers travel each year. They have also been installed in seven major bus stations, which are used each year by more than 29 million people, and company work centers in different parts of the country.

TRAINING

The project, which makes ALSA a benchmark for cardioprotected passenger transport companies in Spain and Europe, has been completed with the training of a total of 330 employees with different profiles among drivers, customer service staff at stations and office staff.

They have all completed the cardiopulmonary resuscitation, basic life support and DOC® defibrillator use course, which enables them to act with total solvency in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest on board buses, or at a station or in the company's facilities.

In addition, they have the added peace of mind that, in the event of having to use the device, they come into contact with emergency personnel, who reassure them and indicate the steps to follow and how to act until the arrival of the emergency services.

The DOC® is a highly innovative technology patented by B+Safe, which combines in a single device an intelligent, easy-to-use and excellent quality defibrillator that incorporates a communication module created to provide the equipment with remote control, tele-assistance, and geolocation 24 hours a day.

“According to our corporate values, ALSA constantly incorporates innovative solutions in the field of safety in various areas, and the field of cardiovascular health could not be less. For this reason, we have developed this initiative with B+Safe to cardioprotect our clients, bus passengers and employees, since a cardiac arrest can occur at any time and place and affect people of any age and physical condition,” explains Víctor Manuel López, General Director of the Transportation Division of ALSA.

According to Nuño Azcona, General Director of B+Safe, “it is essential to have these devices in places that register a large influx of people, such as bus stations, where their presence can mean the possibility of saving a life or not. In addition, the fact of incorporating this life-saving technology into vehicles that transport travelers extends its possibilities of use to all road users, which makes ALSA a benchmark for cardioprotection on the roads of our country”.

For Azcona, “the strong commitment that ALSA has made in this regard gives it a highly differential value in the transport sector. In addition, with it, it is consolidated as a company highly aware of the protection of its clients and employees and advances in its commitment to society”.

According to statistics in Spain, around 100 people suffer a cardiac arrest every day, which constitutes a public health problem of great magnitude, avoidable in many cases through cardiac massage and the use of a defibrillator.
