ALSA participates in the free travel program for EU students.

Madrid, March 29th - The Spanish passenger transport company ALSA will participate in the European Union's free travel program for students "Move2Learn, Learn2Move," which was presented last Monday in Brussels to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus program, with the aim of promoting the mobility of young Europeans.

The initiative, which will involve the collaboration of ALSA, consists of financing, through aid and discounts to participants thanks to agreements with 19 leading European companies in the transport sector, trips between countries of the Union to a minimum of 5,000 and a maximum of 7,000 students aged 16 to 19. The program aims to strengthen the feeling of belonging to Europe and raise awareness about the fight against climate change.

To participate in the program, which will run from August 2017 and throughout 2018, students must register for the eTwinning cooperation program, which promotes educational projects by connecting students from schools in different countries. The best projects will be selected for the "Move2learn, Learn2Move" program.

The winners will receive aid of between 350 and 530 euros, to spend on a trip, either with their class or individually, of no more than two weeks to another European country, always using the most environmentally friendly modes of transport, so trips exclusively by plane are excluded as they are very polluting. ALSA will also offer special discounts to participants.

DISCOVER EUROPE

According to the EU Transport Commissioner, Violeta Bulc, "transport is not about using roads, ships or highways, but about enabling people to move. We want to give young Europeans the opportunity to discover Europe. We also want to encourage them to travel in an environmentally friendly way, which is why CO2 emissions will be taken into account. Furthermore, I am pleased that we can count on the active participation of transport operators to help strengthen the initiative."

The new program, launched to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus program, and also coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome, was born after the proposal to give away train tickets to travel around Europe to young people when they turn 18 was withdrawn. It has a budget of 2.5 million euros and also seeks to promote sustainable mobility among young people in the Union.

In addition to ALSA, it has the participation of other European operators, both air and rail, leaders in their respective countries, such as Brussels Airlines, Trenitalia, Aegan Airlines, Deustche Bahn, SNCF and Croatia Airlines, among others.
