ALSA unveils improvements to the Oviedo Bus Station, backed by a €150,000 investment.

Jacobo Cosmen, Pedro Ortiz, Pilar Varela y Javier Martínez Prieto, at Oviedo Station
ALSA has invested 150,000 euros in the Oviedo Bus Station over the past two months to implement these improvements.
The event was attended by Pedro Ortiz, delegate of the ONCE in Asturias; Pilar Varela, Minister of Social Rights and Services, of the Government of Asturias, accompanied by Jacobo Cosmen, president of ALSA in Asturias, and Javier Martínez Prieto, area director of Cornisa of the company.
The authorities took a guided tour of the Oviedo Bus Station to learn in detail about the various improvements made, accompanied by ALSA company executives.
Among them, the new traveler information system stands out, which has involved installing 16 state-of-the-art and large screens, which offer travelers data on the arrival, departure and positioning on platforms of the services operated at the Oviedo Bus Station, both by ALSA -concessionaire of the station- and by other passenger transport companies that operate in it.
This action is a further step in ALSA's commitment to improving continuous and quality information to travelers, not only at the station, but also through online information channels -web, social networks, app-, which are increasingly demanded by customers, as is the case in all modes of transport.
ALSA has also painted all the common areas of the Oviedo Bus Station, and access for buses to the station has been improved, facilitating traffic on Pepe Cosmen street. On the other hand, improvements have been made to the entrance and exit of the underground car park.
Improvements for people with reduced visibility or mobility
ALSA has made these investments to facilitate access and orientation for people with reduced visibility or mobility.
An advanced tactile guidance system has been installed for the blind, which makes it easier for people with visual disabilities to orient themselves inside the station and on the platforms.
The system has involved implementing some 300 meters of tactile guides, made of polyurethane and long-lasting, both in the station and on the platforms. The objective is to alert, inform and guide people with partial or complete visual disabilities, offering directional instructions that meet the highest standards of international recommendations for the inclusion of blind and visually impaired people in public spaces.
The system involved the placement of longitudinal ribs, which provide orientation instructions, as well as tactile strips and dots, which allow the location of relevant spaces such as ticket offices, doors or platforms to be shown.
On the other hand, a sales office has been set up adapted for people with reduced mobility, which facilitates their travel information and ticket purchase procedures.
Likewise, doors with indicative bands have been installed on all access doors from the station to the platforms, which make it easier for people with some visual disabilities to better approach and access the different areas of the facility.
These improvements involve addressing ALSA's commitment to facilitating equal standards in access to public transport for people with disabilities.
