Aptis, the electric bus with which Alsa participated in COP25, the climate summit held in Madrid in early December 2019.

More than 2,000 volunteers have collaborated in the organization of the Climate Summit. A large part of them traveled through the center of Madrid every day to remind citizens how every small individual gesture adds up in the fight against climate change.

While the major policies and macro strategies were being debated in the different IFEMA halls, these volunteers were transported through the center of Madrid in an innovative 100% electric zero-emission bus developed by Alstom and operated by Alsa to bring a clear message to the citizens: it is time to act.

Aptis, an innovative solution for sustainable mobility

Designed to offer cities a clean and efficient mobility solution, Aptis is an innovative electric bus, whose first prototypes are currently being tested by different European cities, including Madrid. Based on Alstom's experience with trams or wheeled vehicles, engines and traction systems, Aptis incorporates all the advantages of a tram in a new concept of urban vehicle, to improve the passenger experience and vehicle operation.

Its design is unique and innovative and is inspired by the tram, incorporating total accessibility with its low floor, 360º views and a travel experience never seen before. With the batteries and energy supply systems located on the roof and the wheels located at both ends without overhangs, Aptis offers passengers a totally new concept of completely low floor, double doors to improve access, panoramic windows, 20% more glazed surface, minimum noise levels and better maneuverability.

Within the commitment to sustainable mobility that the company has made, Alsa has been in charge of the operation of the innovative Aptis vehicle during the Climate Summit. Within its environmental strategy, the company is a pioneer in the gradual incorporation of eco-efficient vehicles into its fleet - 5% are already hybrid, electric or gas vehicles, 21% more than the previous year - and in the training of its professionals in efficient driving techniques.
