The new public transport concession between Pamplona and Soria is launched, with a commitment to efficient mobility.

Pamplona, Tuesday, November 12, 2019. Next Wednesday, November 23, the new public road transport service concession between Pamplona/Iruña and Soria will commence operations. This will be the first route of the Comprehensive Interurban Road Passenger Transport Plan (PITNA) to be implemented.

The Minister of Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Navarra, Bernardo Ciriza, has presided over the presentation of the new bus fleet that will cover the service, used by more than 110,000 travelers a year, in Pamplona. Ciriza was accompanied by the general director of Transportation, Berta Miranda, and by part of the concessionaire company, ALSA-CONDA, the director of the North Zone, Luis García Panizo.

The new service represents a significant improvement in the quality of the trip, both in safety, accessibility, comfort and environmental efficiency, as well as in the price of the ticket, which is reduced by 6%.

The rate to be paid by the user will be €0.071/km without VAT. For example, the ticket from Pamplona to Soria by highway cost 15.45 euros and with the new service it will be reduced to 13.95 euros. The estimated value of the contract awarded by the General Directorate of Transportation to CONDA, for a period of 10 years, is around 10 million euros.

The Pamplona-Soria service will have four daily routes that will connect both cities and that also include stops in Tafalla, Tudela, Alfaro, Corella, Cintruénigo, Fitero, Valverde, Ágreda and Matalebreras. A fifth itinerary designed for weekend transfers operates on working Fridays and Sundays, connecting Pamplona-Tafalla-Tudela-Cintruénigo-Soria.

More efficient mobility and improvements in the experience

Three new SC5 model buses, with engine and capacity for 50 passengers, will provide the service. They are equipped with a platform for access by People with Reduced Mobility in Wheelchairs (PMRSR) and their permanent space reserved so that it can be used at any time. In addition, large-format displays are incorporated on the front of each bus to inform about the destination of the service, as well as a sound information system for stops for people with visual disabilities.

The vehicles have been bodied in the factory of the Navarran company Sunsundegui, in Alsasua, and the seats have been manufactured in the Isringhausen Spain factory, in Landaben. Likewise, the image of the NBUS buses has also been designed by the Navarran company Artworks.

The vehicles have Euro VI engines, technology with the highest environmental requirements today and that guarantees minimum levels of polluting emissions. They have the latest technology in active and passive safety, an automatic fire extinguishing system in the engine compartment and a camera circuit to control the trunk and luggage.

The new buses offer several improvements in comfort by having free WiFi, USB connections, 220 volt power outlets to connect mobile devices and on-board entertainment systems through individual screens in each seat that allow access to a wide range of leisure on demand, such as movies, series, books, press or games.

The improvements in the line also include free customer service telephone and reimbursement of a percentage of the ticket when there is a delay in arrival due to the company or due to breakdown.

Within the service modernization project, the collaboration of the General Directorate of Digital Transformation of the Government of Navarra has been fundamental, mainly through its Departmental Information Systems Service, as well as the public company Tracasa Instrumental.

NBUS, the image of the new public transport lines

The Pamplona-Soria line is the first to come into operation within the Comprehensive Interurban Passenger Transport Plan by road (PITNA) and premieres the NBUS image.

The new vehicles will be painted entirely in white and red and labeled with the Navarra shield and the name of the NBUS model, which will allow to visualize and publicize the bus services that are the responsibility of and are financed by the Foral Administration. The NBUS image will also be used on the new information website of the Interurban Transport of Navarra (https://nbus.navarra.es), also developed by the Navarran company Geoactio, and will centralize all the information on the bus lines of the Interurban Transport Service by Bus.

Redesign of the passenger transport system

PITNA redesigns the transport network from a regional vision with trunk, radial and on-demand services that will connect practically 100% of population centers with their regional town of reference, and in turn will connect with Pamplona, where work is being done to enable additional stops in the hospital environment and the UPNA campus, facilitating travel for health and educational reasons, among others.

In this way, the current 37 concessions have been integrated into 10 so that the non-deficit concessions contribute profitability to the system, allowing to optimize the economic contribution of the Foral Administration. The concession for the Pamplona-Soria services will be followed by the new award of the rest of the routes: Pamplona-Tafalla; Pamplona-Tudela-Zaragoza; Pamplona-Irún; Pamplona-Estella-Logroño; Pamplona-Alsasua-Vitoria; Pamplona-San Sebastián; Pamplona-Eastern Pyrenees; Pamplona-Western Pyrenees; and interurban services in the Pamplona Region.
