FFE and ALSA present the Felipe II Train

This is a tourist train that will connect Madrid with El Escorial. It is the first passenger train in Spain to run on the General Interest Railway Network managed by a private operator.

Madrid, July 4.- The Spanish Railways Foundation (FFE) and ALSA today presented the Train of Felipe II at the Príncipe Pío station, a new tourist train that from the 8th will connect Madrid with San Lorenzo de El Escorial, thus completing the tourist and cultural offer of the Community of Madrid.

The presentation ceremony was attended by representatives of the various entities and organizations that collaborate in the project: Carlos Chaguaceda, general director of Tourism of the Community of Madrid; Blanca Juárez, mayor of San Lorenzo; Manuel Terrón, delegate of National Heritage; César López, managing director of the FFE; and Francisco Iglesias, CEO of ALSA.

The Train of Felipe II is the first passenger train to circulate in Spain on the General Interest Railway Network (REFIG) managed by a private operator, which represents a milestone in the railway history of our country.

HISTORICAL TRAIN

The train runs every day except Monday. It departs from Príncipe Pío Station at 10:20 a.m., making the journey to San Lorenzo in 50 minutes. It returns from San Lorenzo Station at 6:15 p.m.

The journey takes place aboard a historic train, made up of four cars from the 5000/6000 Series, built in the 1940s, which have a maximum capacity of 232 seats. The passenger cars have been carefully restored by members of the Association of Friends of the Railway of Venta de Baños (Palencia). The composition is towed by an ALCO 321 diesel locomotive. Before the start of operations, a major maintenance intervention has been carried out on the locomotive and passenger cars to guarantee their operation in optimal conditions of safety and comfort.

Traveling on this historic train adds a further attraction and is a special way to discover the historical and monumental wealth of San Lorenzo and the Monastery and Royal Site of El Escorial, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The train of Felipe II adds to the offer of tourist trains currently existing in the Community of Madrid: The Strawberry Train to Aranjuez and the Train of Cervantes to Alcalá de Henares.
