CTEA, an ALSA Group company, achieves the first AENOR Efficient Driving certification.

This certificate, based on the AENOR EA 0050 Specification, certifies that Compañía del Tranvía Eléctrico de Avilés (CTEA) has implemented an Efficient Driving Management System for commercial vehicles, improving its energy efficiency and sustainability.

October 7, 2016. The Avilés Electric Tram Company (CTEA), integrated into ALSA and which manages urban transport in the city of Avilés and intercity services with nearby regions, has become the first Spanish company to obtain the AENOR certificate of the Efficient Driving Management System for Industrial Vehicles.

The General Director of the Maintenance Division of ALSA, Miguel Ángel Alonso, received the recognition from the Director of Certification of AENOR, Manuel Romero.

This certificate, based on AENOR Technical Specification EA 0050, certifies that road transport companies have implemented a management, control and monitoring system for efficient driving in their fleet, which translates into a continuous improvement of their energy efficiency and sustainability.

In a fleet made up of 16 buses, CTEA has been able to reduce diesel consumption by 9.04% between January and August 2016. This translates into a saving of 40,171 liters of diesel. In addition, CTEA has managed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 99.26 tons.

In their audit report, AENOR's experts highlighted as strengths "the results achieved in the energy performance of efficient driving" of CTEA, as well as the systematic established for the Efficient Driving Management System, "with the creation of the Environmental, Energy and Efficient Driving Management Unit (UGAECE), detailed reports of drivers per service, the evolution of the fleet, or the aids to the interpretation of the driver's report", among other aspects. In addition, they underlined the "training and information work" of the organization for the development of the management system.

EA 0050 has been developed in AENOR, as the entity responsible for standardization in Spain, with the active participation of leading companies and entities in the sector and the promotion of the company ADN Mobile Solutions, and is the result of consensus.

The Transport sector is the largest consumer of final energy in Spain. In this framework, professional road transport (trucks and buses) totals around 10% of the final energy consumed in Spain. In this line, the efficient use of transport modes, together with modal shift and the improvement of the efficiency of the different transport modes, is one of the three major lines of action to be considered for the improvement of the energy efficiency of the sector. In this sense, EA 0050 helps organizations to improve the efficiency of the sector.
