The third season of the Felipe II Train is starting.

Madrid, March 21, 2019. - The third season of the Felipe II Train between Madrid and El Escorial begins on March 22. Since its launch in July 2017, over 33,000 people have traveled on this tourist train and enjoyed the cultural heritage of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Book your journey now!

As a novelty, this new season in collaboration with the El Escorial City Council, starting in April, travelers are offered the option of taking an afternoon excursion on Saturdays through the town called "Afternoon of Legends. The origin of El Escorial". This activity offers travelers a guided tour with characterized characters by the DEVERDE escurialense Association, with the aim of boosting local tourism from the El Escorial City Council. The visit will depart from the bus station in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and will take a walking tour down through the gardens of the Prince's Cottage, through the town and ending at the Church of San Berbabé.

For this 2019 season, the company has scheduled 110 expeditions, departing from Príncipe Pío Station every weekend of the year, national and Community of Madrid holidays, and Thursdays. Departure is at 10.20 am and return from San Lorenzo de El Escorial station at 6.24 pm.

The journey takes 50 minutes and is enlivened by an entertainer who represents the figure of Felipe II. Through the "Imperial", "Legends" and "Travesía" packs, a varied selection of options is offered, including everything from guided or free entry to the Monastery, to a visit to the municipality of San Lorenzo or even just enjoying the train journey. In addition, as in previous seasons, the train is available to schools, companies and associations that want to make a different and personalized trip. Some special runs are also incorporated on Wednesdays aimed at the international public with a departure time from Príncipe Pío at 9.10 am and return at 1.35 pm, including a lunch on the return journey.

Traveling on this tourist train is an attractive experience and a special way to get closer to and learn about the historical and monumental wealth of San Lorenzo and the Monastery and Royal Site of El Escorial, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Felipe II Train is an initiative promoted by the Community of Madrid, National Heritage, Spanish Railway Foundation, San Lorenzo de El Escorial City Council, El Escorial City Council and ALSA.

The journey takes place aboard a historic train made up of four cars from the 5000/6000 Series built in the 40s of the last century, which have a capacity for 232 seats, and is towed by an ALCO 321 diesel locomotive.
